The Wine Caverns

The Wine Caverns approached S3 with the aim of rebranding their business and in doing so creating an accessible and curated experience that introduces new wine drinkers to the joys of an otherwise specialist and stuffy industry.

“We believe great wine should simply be a pleasurable and enriching experience, not an intimidating one reserved for experts only. That’s why we don’t care for the usual ‘wine club’ stuffiness and believe in sharing our knowledge and passion for wine, not keeping it hidden away.”

This branding project was undertaken while working at S3 and all photography for this branding project was supplied by the client.

For the logo design, we took direct inspiration from the new name and crafted a bespoke round emblem. This would in turn work as a seal of sorts, if The Wine Caverns approved of the wine, it was worthy of featuring this seal.

The mark itself consists of a simplified wine glass motif, the bowl of the glass shaped into the jagged angles of a cavern ceiling, and from which drops of wine form the base of the same wine glass.

Chosen logo concept.

Logo development

Logo exploration

For this project, the name ‘The Wine Caverns’ provided an excellent basis for a visual execution, with the combination of wine related imagery and then the geometric and environmental aspects found from the word caverns we were able to produce a number of very solid concepts.

Colours and assets

The colour palette for this brand was heavily inspired by the rich and decadent tones of the wines themselves as well as the vineyards from which they originate.

Assets to be used across various marketing and branded channels combined a contemporary typographic and geometric repeating pattern with more classical illustrations similar to those of wood block etchings.

Web design

This branding project also required us to take an audit of their existing website which was a shopify e-commerce site and redesign following the new brand identity.
